Who are our adjudicators? The Stephen Sondheim Awards adjudication team is filled with a range of industry professionals. Our adjudicators are not only experts in their field, but passionate about arts education and the future of high school musical theatre.
What does an adjudicator for The Stephen Sondheim Awards do? Stephen Sondheim Awards adjudicators view 3-5 productions each year and provide scoring and feedback for each production. As an educational organization, production feedback is a core part of our program and all feedback is shared with the school following the awards gala at the end of the year. Adjudicators receive a stipend along with travel reimbursement for productions viewed. All adjudicators participate in a yearly training along with a final adjudication meeting in the late spring.
How can I become an adjudicator?Individuals must apply to be an adjudicator for The Stephen Sondheim Awards. Applicants must have a degree in a relevant field (Music, Theatre, Dance, Technical Theatre, or Arts Education) or have extensive professional or academic experience within the industry. Upon submitting an application, potential adjudicators will partake in a brief interview with a member of our staff.

All adjudicators are asked to view 3-5 productions per awards season along with participating in a mandatory training session (January 15 via Zoom or separate training with Program Director), final adjudication meeting (Saturday April 27), and submitting an online score sheet within 10 days of viewing each production. By submitting an application you understand these adjudicator responsibilities and agree to them.
